6. Children's Privacy
CheriMathLab is designed for students of different age groups. Where applicable law requires parental or guardian consent for a child to use the service, CheriMathLab requires the appropriate consent or authorisation before the child's account is activated. Additional requirements for the European Union and Middle East are described below.
Children's Privacy - European Union and Middle East
CheriMathLab is an educational platform designed for students, parents, teachers, and schools. We take additional measures to protect children's personal information.
Standalone Student Accounts
Where applicable law requires parental or guardian consent, a child may not independently create a CheriMathLab account. During registration, CheriMathLab may request information such as country/region and age to determine whether parental or guardian authorisation is required.
For users in the European Union, the applicable age of digital consent may vary by Member State. Where parental or guardian consent is required under applicable law, the account may only be created after the required consent or authorisation has been obtained.
For users in the United Arab Emirates, children under 13 may not independently register where collection or use of their personal data requires parental or guardian consent. A parent or guardian must provide the required consent before the account is activated.
School-Managed Student Accounts
Where a school creates or manages student accounts, CheriMathLab processes student information for the purpose of providing educational services to the school and its students. The school is responsible for ensuring that it has the appropriate authority, notices, permissions, consents, or other lawful basis required under applicable law before providing student personal information to CheriMathLab.
Where parental or guardian consent is legally required, the school must obtain that consent before the student's personal information is provided to or processed through CheriMathLab.
CheriMathLab may require participating schools to confirm that the appropriate permissions or consents have been obtained.
Protection of Children's Information
We collect only information reasonably necessary to provide and improve the educational services being used. We do not use children's personal information for targeted advertising. We apply appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to protect student information and restrict access based on authorised roles.
Parents or guardians may contact CheriMathLab to request access to, correction of, or deletion of their child's personal information, or to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, subject to applicable law and legitimate retention requirements.
Information presented directly to children about privacy and data use will be provided in clear and age-appropriate language.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Opt out of communications
- Withdraw consent at any time
8. Chat File Sharing Policy
CheriMathLab allows students and teachers to share files through the in-app chat system. By using this feature, you agree to the following:
- Permitted content: Only STEM-related academic materials, homework, notes, diagrams, math problems, science documents, study materials, and educational resources.
- Prohibited content: Personal photographs, vulgar or inappropriate content, copyrighted material not owned by you, spam, malware, or any non-academic files. Sharing prohibited content may result in immediate account suspension.
- Auto-deletion: All shared files are automatically deleted from our servers after 24 hours. We do not retain file content beyond this period.
- Monitoring and logging: All file uploads are logged with timestamps, user IDs, and file metadata. Uploads may be reviewed by administrators if flagged or reported.
- Legal action: Users who share vulgar, obscene, threatening, or illegal content will have their accounts permanently suspended. CheriMathLab reserves the right to report such content to relevant authorities and pursue legal action.
- Consent: Before sharing files for the first time, users must accept the file sharing policy. This consent is recorded and timestamped.
- File size and types: Maximum file size is 10MB. Supported formats include images (JPEG, PNG), documents (PDF, DOC, DOCX), spreadsheets (XLS, XLSX), presentations (PPT, PPTX), text files, and ZIP archives.
Demo Mode
You can explore CheriMathLab using sample data without creating a student account. Demo activity does not create a personal student learning profile. Demo pages use only essential cookies that keep the site working. We do not run analytics or advertising cookies such as Google Analytics in Demo Mode. Please see our Cookies and Privacy sections for how the rest of the site uses cookies.
We do not ask who you are
Demo Mode does not ask for your name, email address, date of birth, phone number or any other detail about you. No account is created for you. You are shown a sample account containing invented students, classes and results, so that you can see how the product works.
We keep your IP address for a few hours, then delete it
This is the only information about you personally that Demo Mode records, so we want to be exact about it.
What we keep
- Your IP address, used to limit how many demo sessions can be started from one network. This is held for about fifteen minutes and then expires on its own.
- Your IP address and your browser type, in a session record used to keep the demo working while you move around it. This is held for at most twenty-four hours.
When it is deleted
Every night, the demo is reset and all of that day's demo records are deleted. Your IP address and browser type are erased at that point and are not kept afterwards.
We do keep a record of what was done in the demo for ninety days, to understand which parts of the product people find useful, but your IP address and browser type are removed from that record before it is stored, so what remains cannot be traced back to you or your device.
What we never do with it
We do not use your IP address to build a profile of you, to identify you, to advertise to you, or to link your demo session to any account. We do not sell it or share it for marketing.
Country
We also read the country your connection appears to come from, so that we can show you the right regional information. We use it and discard it, and it is not stored at all.
Why we are allowed to do this
We rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and available. Recording an IP address briefly is how we stop automated systems from abusing a service that anyone can open without signing in. We do not ask for your consent for this because consent is not the basis we rely on, and because there is nothing else about you for us to process.
What happens to what you do in the demo
Anything you do in Demo Mode, such as answering a question, earning points or opening a report, is recorded against the sample account, not against you. Because everyone exploring the demo uses the same sample account, this activity cannot be connected to any individual person.
All demo activity is deleted every night and the sample account is restored to its original state. We keep a copy of the deleted activity for ninety days to understand which parts of the product people find useful. IP addresses and browser information are removed from that copy before it is stored. We also keep simple daily counts, for example how many people tried the demo on a given day, which contain no information about any individual and are kept indefinitely.
Please do not enter personal information
Because the demo uses a sample account, anything you type into it may be visible to other people exploring the demo until that night's reset. Please do not enter your name, contact details or any other personal information while using Demo Mode.
Children and Demo Mode
Demo Mode does not collect personal information from anyone, including children, and does not create a learning profile. It can therefore be used without parental consent.
If you decide to create an account, different rules may apply depending on your country and age. Where applicable law requires parental or guardian consent, a child may not independently create an account until the required consent or authorisation has been obtained. Where a school creates or manages a student account, the school must ensure that it has the appropriate authority, notices, permissions, consents, or other lawful basis required under applicable law before providing the student's personal information to CheriMathLab.
Demo Mode and your rights
Because Demo Mode does not identify you, we normally cannot locate any information relating to you in order to act on a request about it. If you believe we hold information about you from a demo session and you want to ask about it, contact us at connect@cherimathlab.com with the approximate date and time of your session and we will do what we can to help.
